The Rocky Horror Show - Milton Keynes Theatre

The Rocky Horror Show is a spectacular show that has a special place in my heart.  After all, this is no ordinary show, it’s one of the master’s affairs.  This is not a show for the faint hearted…well unless you are dressing up as Janet (damnit!).

The Rocky Horror Show is Richard O’Brien’s cult musical about Brad and Janet; newly engaged whose car breaks down.  They stumble across an old castle and decide to ask to use their phone and discover so much more than they could ever anticipate.  It is intentionally set in a B-movie style and features so many brilliant songs including Sweet Transvestite, Science Fiction/Double Feature, Dammit Janet and, of course, the timeless, Time-Warp.

Adam Strong plays Frank and what a sweet transvestite he is.  He is camp and very sexy and commands the stage with a presence so you cannot take your eyes off him.  His vocals are phenomenal; he absolutely nails the songs – especially ‘I’m going home’ which was a highlight of the show.

Nathan Caton is The Narrator and his ad-lib and responses to the call outs were fantastic.  You have to think on your feet in this role and Nathan has it in abundance.  He was also current, mentioning Labour MP’s and What’s app which was only a news story this week.  I loved that Nathan made the role his own – for example, when people shout a$$hole to Brad, Nathan turns to Brad and said ‘you gonna take that bruv’.  Nathan was totally up for it.  Him and his size 13 shoes.

Connor Carson plays Brad.  Connor was perfect as Brad.  He was geeky and sweet, and the audience took him to their hearts.  Lauren Chia is exceptional in the role of Janet.  She sung perfectly, delivered sweet and innocent with that simmering sexiness underneath.  Being a brunette myself I really liked that Janet was a brunette instead of a blonde.  Lauren has a lovely voice, gave great character definition and I really enjoyed her performance.

An outstanding show and the audience knew it.  They didn’t wait til the end of the show to do the Time Warp – oh no – they were on their feet very early on.  It’s no secret I love this show.  I am going again twice this week.

Don’t dream it – be it.  Go buy a ticket to give yourself over to absolute pleasure.

The Rocky Horror Show is at Milton Keynes Theatre until 15 February 2025.
