Murder she didn’t write is at the Royal Theatre in Northampton this week and I promise you it’s the funniest thing you will see all year!
Its improv. For those who don’t know what that is, it means they make it up as they go along, so it’s different every night. What I can say is they’ll create a classic murder mystery on-the-spot in this ingenious improvised comedy and we the audience can try to solve it. We are now detectives (and last night also chickens!) and along with our narrator detective, we get to know our suspects.
But before we meet them, the audience are asked to shout out some suggestions. We needed an event. The audience suggested various things and we went with a wife swapping party. We also had a cream egg, a spanner and at some point there was some random tap dancing. The audience are asked if we can put our finger of suspicion in the air and point it at our suspects. The suspects were Beula, who loves egg shaped things, her niece, Caroline who loves to tap dance, Caroline’s husband who is a librarian and has read all the ‘for dummies’ books in his library. Beula’s husband loves eggs and has a farm of chickens and Humfrey Dumpty, a mechanic who seems to be covered in cream and is known as spanner. It is so random and completely tickled my funny bone.
Last night’s extraordinarily talented cast were: Lizzy Skrzypiec, Rachael Procter-Lane, Peter Baker, Harry Allmark, Sylvia Bishop, Stephen Clements and Rob Kershaw. Of course it wont be the same when you go – but go you must.
Performed by Edinburgh Fringe favourites, Degrees of Error, this outstanding art form is set up for your sleuthing pleasure.
Murder She Didn't Write is at the Royal Theatre in Northampton until 17 April. Don’t miss this!
